What God’s Word can do to a woman…

Just a quick note. This weekend I met a lady who has left a lasting impression on me.

I have met many ladies who ‘glow’ the moment you meet them. This was true for this lady. She glowed and she oozed gentleness. Her conversations were seasoned with grace, and God’s word was added to conversation at every chance.

I kept thinking how I wanted to become like this and what was I to do? Gentleness isn’t my first impression I give to people.

Sunday morning came around and we sat around the fire to share God’s Word and break bread together. She walked over from her cabin, gathered her children and pulled up a log to sit on.

Then it struck me as I caught a quick glance at her bible – it was tattered and worn, rough around the edges. It was clear it hadn’t been an ornament, or special occasion book. This book was her life.

As we listened to the message and then discussed different passages she contributed as a woman who walked with The Lord in the light of His Word.

I was convicted yet again of not just setting aside time to read His Word, but LIVING in His Word.

Don’t preserve your bible’s. Wear them out. Turn the pages, take it with you wherever you go, and as we clothe ourselves and put on the truths we learn through His Word, true beauty will adorn us each and everyday.

  1. Amen! Thank you for a wonderful reminder. I am a pastor and I too was reminded recently how I haven’t taken the quiet time I need to with God’s Word. What’s really embarrassing is that I just wrote an article myself a couple of months ago with that same reminder: http://364daysofthanksgiving.com/shhh/
    Thank you for the encouragement!!!

    • Thank you for taking the time to visit. The devil loves to distract and keep is away from whatever draws us closer to God. His Word is not just a collection of words that happen to inspire us, His Word is living, active and sharper than a two edged sword. Even when we fail to comprehend what is being read at times, His Spirit works deep within our being, encouraging, rebuking and teaching us. It’s such a mysterious but blessed grace we have available to us. Thanks again for visiting!
