Education Mentoring is where Education Supports and Community Support come together to support and student and their family to re-engage in a journey of life-long learning and development.
Student’s disengage from learning for various reasons. Through education mentoring, NYEC aims to provide necessary supports to see a student reconnect with their formal education provider, or support them to engage in distance education, sometimes as part of a transition arrangement with the local education department, and local schools.
We work closely with valued stakeholders and community contributors in a student’s life, to create an enjoyable schedule of learning experiences.
We aim to be culturally appropriate, seeking to understand cultural histories of each student and seeking ways to support them to celebrate their cultural values.
Traditionally, Education has taken place in classrooms between the hours of 9-3. Sometimes though effective education requires an alternative approach that values not only the whole child, but their family, community and other significant influences in their lives.
