“Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” Hebrews 13:3
A group of men visit the Dubbo Juvenile Justice Facility (Orana) once a month. We are hoping to commence monthly visits into Grafton Juvenile Justice Facility early 2026!
The visitation programme, CHOICES, is a framework of reflection delivered through culturally appropriate connection, song, yarning and food! We are so grateful for the willingness of the staff at these facilities to have us visit and connect with the young boys in this way.
We use resources made available to us by ECS (Emmaus Correspondence School), the Life Recovery Bible (Excellent resource!), and the sharing of personal testimonies and experiences of the men who visit.
We hope to build strong connections with the boys, so that when they get released they have stronger support networks to help with their rehabilitation process. Our plan is to also develop an education re-entry pipeline into our anticipated new school, Nhuubala Yugal, in 2026!
If you are a Christian Man, and are interested in joining a visitation team, please contact Paul. All visitation team members will need to provide a current NSW Working With Children Check, Date of Birth and also sign a Maruma-li Code of Conduct prior to attending.
The pastoral care doesn’t stop when the men finish the visit. Families who are apart from their children are often in need of comfort and support unitl their children are released. Depending on the crime committed, others in the community might hold the family members in contempt. None of us are deserving of grace and mercy, yet we ALL find ourselves in need of grace and mercy, no matter how good and law-abiding we have tried to be. If you are interested in supporting and caring for the families of these juvenile offenders, please reach out to us and lets have a yarn about what we can do!
